Christmas Tradition
A great tradition around my house is being with family on the holidays. Many people have this tradition but ours is always different from others. Every year since I can remember I have spent Christmas Eve at my grandma’s house. This tradition didn’t start when I was born; it has been before my dad was a little boy. My dad growing up with two brothers had a tradition every year. On Christmas Eve, his brothers and parents would pile into to the cab of an old ford pick up. The truck was meant to hold three people but they made five fit. The truck was only a two wheel drive so when they would get stuck in the snow on their way to Christmas Eve dinner my dad, his two brothers and my grandma would stand on the back bumper and bounce to get moving again. The whole family got together every year and we still do, every year.
Now, over Christmas break I once again got to be apart of this great tradition. This last Christmas Eve my family met up at my grandma’s for the always waited for dinner. Our Christmas dinner is the highlight of the night; we wait all year for it. My grandma makes homemade spaghetti, stuffed squid, homemade rolls, lasagna, salad and always a surprise dessert. We got to her house around five and waited for everyone to get there. After talking and having appetizers we sit down to the great feast and pass the food around. My grandma says the blessing for the day and the food and we chow down. All the grandkids help clean up the food and dishes after dinner. My cousins, Jarron and Jessica, played darts with me for a while. When every one is ready we sit around the Christmas tree and open present from aunts, uncles, and grandparents. The night ends with the delicious dessert and sitting around talking.
This Christmas was really good for me because I learned a lot of things from my family. I learned that you should cherish the time that you have with your family and many times we take things for advantage sometimes. It’s never to late to start taking the time to care.

I related to your experience because my family has some similar traditions. I liked your story because it seemed like something you really care about and deeply cherish. You did a good job with your writing by expressing certain points in depth.I noticed that there were a few points that were a little confusing, but in the end i was able to understand them. The best part of your story was when you explained how you gather around the table for dinner.
ReplyDeleteHillary: I also related to your story. I felt like this essay was missing a clear focus. You seemed to be jumping back and forth and never really got to the true emotion of the experience. Also, I think that you really need to focus on editing aloud to fix the small stuff like punctuation and word choice.

I related to your experience because my family goes to my grandmas house too. We eat a big dinner and open gifts. I liked the part about the old ford. Your story was really good but i think you could have used better words in some places. Also it could have been a little more organized. But other than that I think you did a really good job and I enjoyed reading your story. Good job!!
